Insights from affiliate managers
How to get the most out of an affiliate programme
Let's start with a question that, at first glance, may seem easy, but from experience I can say that not everyone understands the difference between an affiliate manager and support manager in an affiliate programme.
Many people think that a support manager and affiliate manager are the same positions, that their tasks and work are the same. This is not the case.
The duties of a support person include technical issues. He doesn't help solve problems with the startup (account problems, proxies, account bans and the like).
At the same time, an affiliate manager is the person you can contact, write to and call with requests like "let's make an offer right now". It is he who will be able to help with creatives, to give applications, to pick the best in terms of conversion offers, to tell you what, where and when it is better to launch. Affs have access to the statistics of other affiliates to internal buying and the like.
Usually affiliate managers are in touch with their clients 24/7. When there is an urgent issue, webmasters ask for help even after 12 at night.
Support manager doesn't solve such issues. The support will be able to advise on the technical part, but you should ask an affiliate manager about the essence of the question.
The support will not be able to compare different approaches. An affiliate manager analyses what comes in better, analyses statistics and then tells partners what approach is better to choose based on his experience.
If you need to choose an offer or a GEO depending on your experience, budget, expectations of the result, then it's to the affiliate manager, not to the support team.
At the same time, an affiliate manager doesn't just watch the conversion rate and give offers. He is looking for connections for you, negotiating with internal buying – so that they give a hint or look at the web situation.
An affiliate manager is, conditionally, your cousin and brother-in-law, without him as without hands. With a good affiliate manager, even a Facebook storm is easier to weather, because he/she knows how to cheer you up and provides moral support.
Let's talk about GEO, how to choose it correctly? Are there top countries with a high priority, where you can get more traffic from?
To choose the right GEO, you need to write to the affiliate manager about your experience, budget and give answers to all the questions he/she will ask.
The optimal and easiest option is to ask the affiliate directly what the average price of an install and a conversion is. The affiliate manager knows this.
Then you need to roughly calculate how much money you will need for tests in order to find your bundle. The bindings that are given in publishers are not as stable as the ones you find on your own.
Often beginners do not have a large amount of money to launch in, and they mistakenly think that they can get rich and rise in Brazil, Africa, Kazakhstan, because there is cheap to buy traffic. Yes, in terms of volume it is indeed a good profit. But if you do not have such a big budget, you will not be able to rise in these markets.
For example, in order to earn $300 there are two ways: make 10 deposits in Brazil or conditionally one deposit in Canada.
If you take both options apart, when you launch Brazil, you spend less money per deposit, but you don't factor in the price for creatives, apps, accounts and all the other consumables.
And then the fun part starts. You need to break the baseline, fulfil the terms of the set KPI – it tends to be tougher on cheap GEOs.
You need to get players back to the casino, but the Brazilians had no money, and they did not appear.
To make 10 deposits in Brazil, you need to spend about 300 and something dollars in good odds, and the same amount you get.
Now, unfortunately, rates are down across the market compared to 2-3 years ago. It takes about $150 to make one deposit in Canada. With good conditions you get $300.
Sure, it's longer and more complicated, but you spend the money and you get a profit.
All the above figures are approximate – not including consumables.
To choose the right offer and GEO, you need to write to the aff and he will give an offer that has already been tested, an envelope in which he is confident, stable install and price.
Do not forget that it is cheaper to learn from other people's mistakes than from your own.
As a reminder, One Partners has an option to order creatives. We make creatives for partners for free, we give them at once, if there are ready and unused. He just runs them through the uniqueisers and can launch them in. Creatives that are squeezed out, we do not give to partners. If you have any personal wishes, you can use our new functionality in the affiliate network – write your terms of reference and our designer will develop a creative for you.
As for applications, we also give free applications to our partners – we understand bots, accounts. It's really cool to work with us, you get comprehensive services.
A little announcement: soon we will present an incredible opportunity on apps.
As for the most important consumables – accounts, you can contact our shop. We give our partners a 10% discount on accounts in the shop.
To summarise. The selection of GEO directly depends on the partner's capabilities and budget. If the budget is limited, you should start with a cheaper GEO. Analyse the market, talk to affiliate managers and choose a GEO.
Which offers and GEOs are worth launching on right now?
Very cool now is Verde Casino for Poland and Germany, UK BloodMoon Casino, HEYSPIN Casino. By the way, HEYSPIN brand has a local licence, so welcome to direct! Write to your managers, get offers and earn. Also good offer Leon Casino in Portugal and Greece.
This is what is right now in the top, but of course, there are many other cheaper, simple offers.
You can find an offer for anyone – both junior and senior.
Let's talk about the differences in working with foreign advertisers, partners and those who work in the CIS.
It's easier to work with foreign webs because they never argue for traffic. Our web starts saying that he had a clean Facebook, although he can't give screenshots of settings to prove it.
Regarding foreign webs. Even if they didn't freeload, but the quality of traffic is low and the advertiser didn't like it, they quietly work further.
But it is easier to work with our advertisers. Our market is built differently. They respond faster, it's easier to agree on some kind of compensation if there were technical problems on their side. It's all because affiliate programmes in working with their adverts often look back at those webs mentioned above.
Foreign advertisers do not rush anywhere, give reconciliations once a month, pay not on Net 14 or Net 30, but on Net "million". You can't predict when the money will come to you, they may answer in chat once a week. But it's easier to negotiate with them for uncap and rate increases – they don't save money.
What happens to those offers that nobody launches money into?
There are a lot of such offers, they were needed yesterday, but after we started them, web users write "I don't want them anymore, I've changed my mind" or just start ignoring them.
This, by the way, pisses off the affiliate most of all – when he has used the whole team, resources, and the web just disappears.
When an offer is in the affiliate 2-3 months, we simply hide it so that partners do not see it, because it is not tested.
If it has been tested and it has come in, we open it and start to offer it, to give links for it. In other words, if you see an offer in our affiliate programme, it means that it is definitely working and you can take it. The so-called "vigilant offers" are hidden so as not to mislead you.
So, the webmasters can merge. Perhaps there are inappropriate questions from them? In general, what kind of silly questions do you get in direct mail from media buyers?
This is an interesting question, I have communicated with many partners during the whole period of my work in this position, and their experience in our vertical is different. There are partners with experience, and there are not quite, as a rule, you can distinguish them from the first question. For example, when a new partner registers with us, and when you ask him what source of traffic you work with, he may answer "Kyivstar", or "wi-fi" or "computer".
It is unpleasant when a webmaster writes such things to you, you start to think, well, why are you wasting your time and mine?
There are times when at late hours, when you are doing your own things, perhaps you are already resting or have gone to bed, your phone goes off. The partner writes "you urgently need to connect an offer, now I will start the traffic, everything will be clear".
Many times I fell for it, but the launches in such situations were minimal. As a rule, after such night connections there is no traffic in the morning.
It's also not a nice story when partners "bully" you ever so slightly.
And also interesting moments arise when not very experienced webmasters ask to make a selection of offers on 10, 15, 20 GEOs of different sorts. He, say, works with TikTok, he has streams, and he needs a selection of offers on PPC, ASO, UAC – all good offers and rates. I also don't understand such questions, because what's the point of doing such a selection if no launch is going to happen as a result?
Do launches ask for money personally?
This is my favourite question when a dude comes in and says "Well give me 300 hryvnias to launch, I don't have any – I need to buy an account".
There are some guys who want everything done for them, and they also want money.
It often happens that web users come and register themselves. You give him an offer, and he says, "I mean, I have to do the spill for my own money." We're like, "Well, we're paying you for deposits," and he's like, "So what, I'm gonna spend my own money?"
Probably a week or two ago we had a web from Bangladesh. He wrote, "My life is over." His "life is over" because he blew 400 dollars in a casino. He put in some of his own fluff, he fell for it, he put the dough in there, he pissed away that $400 and he asked the whole team for some money because he has nothing to live for and he can't tell his family everything. He wrote to me and called me, "Madame, give me money, please, sorry, I will return."
Is it more often just one person writing or those in teams too?
Teams don't have money problems. Amen.
Let's talk just about people who have no experience and wonder how they even get into arbitrage then? How do they get a job as an affiliate manager, for example? Tell us how you started your way.
I will tell you how I got into this whole movement. I started about two years ago.
Until then, I had no experience in arbitrage at all. I did a little bit of commodity trading, I didn't really get into it visually. I saw Facebook a little bit, tested white niches.
Without any experience in arbitrage, I came to affiliate marketing. Yes, it was hard at first. I did not get into the company from the first interview, but you have to knock and the door will open.
I came to arbitrage, I knew what you can do here, what you can earn, that the niche is developing and at a very high rate.
In the beginning it is hard, it is a new niche and you need to know a lot about it. I spent the first month on Youtube and watched all the videos about affiliate marketing. I learnt a lot and now I don't regret anything. I've grown from a junior to a team leader.
There are many nuances in the field, you need to constantly monitor the situation, learn new things, and there will be results.
Have your expectations for this position been fulfilled? What difficulties do you encounter?
Here you can insert a picture with the meme "and the talk was that". The most annoying thing is when the web comes and starts saying "I've been raising your arbitrage from its knees, I need a bid of 300 dollars for Ukraine, I have an average cheque for Bangladesh of 80 dollars on the first day". And the situation is a stalemate, because you can beat out the best offer for him, but he can just tell you fairy tales, which is what happens most of the time.
It's frustrating when you gave the web a bid higher than the advertiser is paying you, and the web just naffed you. And you have to make a payout or compensation because it's a test.
The same goes for Influencer traffic – you expect gaps, crazy average checks from a blogger. And as a result you see five deposits from him with an average cheque of $3.
Another frustrating situation has to do with compensation. "I set the right targeting, poured a thousand installs, and there are no deposits." Most often it happens on TIER 3 GEO, and then these webs come for compensation, and you think – stop, let's do the math. The capa was 10 deposits, if it is, for example, Brazil, there could be no more than 300-400 installs, even with a bad conversion, it is by no means a thousand.
And here is a question: who asked you to launch a thousand installs, and why did you not stop when you had 20-30, no registration, and you continued to spin.
Another situation. The web takes an offer without the manager's approval and starts launching. All traffic goes into the milk and then the tambourine dance begins.
Why do I have to ask for an offer? Why can't all of them just be opened? Why do I have to prove that I am worthy of this offer? These phrases fly a lot.
My answer is that we don't make offers publicly available because we control our capital, our budgets. We do this because we care about our partners. We understand that if a partner can lose money in Canada, we will not recommend it to him. We do this in order to reinsure you from rash actions, and also to reinsure ourselves from overflows of capitals and subsequent problems with non-payments, with all 1000 deps, or rather installs, which nobody asked to pour.
It is better to write to your manager first, consult, and then already launch the campaign.
No one will tell you no, no one will forbid you to take some offer. Just a manager will help you find the best approach, set up everything better, connect a support person, it's easier to do it all with a manager.
That's why we don't make offers available to the public, we want to help you get the best results.
What qualities should a web should have to work effectively, to have profits and good results?
Actually, there are not so many. First of all – diligence, as you need to spend a lot of time to achieve results. Here – patience, it is necessary in various situations where there are no intermediate results, also in the selection of different options and approaches. And you also need a very high level of stress tolerance.
Of course, you won't get far without the desire to "break" the market, so that everyone in the world knows about you. But this trait must be supported by a certain wisdom and mastery of elementary maths. A person should be able to calculate the approximate costs and earnings still on the shore, so that there are no problems later.
Of course, you should be faithful to your affiliate, trust him, be sure that he gives you really cool conditions, that he is really interested in your traffic. You should be able to listen to his advice. Of course, it's important to develop, to improve with the help of your favourite affiliate manager.
What chips are there in communication with media buyers you use? How do you motivate them to work better?
The most important thing is to be friends with the affiliate, also the affiliate should want to be friends with their manager. An affiliate manager is not a Monobank or Glovo support who writes "our conversation has become cyclical". We are always there for you, always trying to help with your problems. Our affiliates love calls, meetings, love not only to discuss working moments, but also just to talk about life. I mean, we all have some interesting moments that we would like to share with someone, why not?
And I have a story that I always tell as an example to my managers.
I had a partner a long time ago with whom we had such a good relationship that he invited me to his daughter's christening. So that was the level of trust.
We communicated by phone, by video link – he lived in another city.
What is moral? The most important thing is that each partner, as well as the manager, understands that on the other side of the monitor sits exactly the same young person. This is a guy or a girl who also has hobbies, news, and interesting events. Don't hesitate to ask your managers about this. When you and your manager will become friends, at least he will not have the conscience to give you a bad offer.
A newbie took an offer and did not ask the advertiser if they accepted traffic to this GEO. And then it turns out that the advertiser does not accept traffic there. Will there be any compensation or not?
In our affiliate all the offers are divided by different sources, i.e. there are offers for Facebook, UAC, PPC and so on.
If you take, for example, Facebook, without warning your manager, you start to launch other sorts, unfortunately, there will be no compensation and the traffic will not be paid. In order to upload sorts, you need to tell your manager about it – he will make a link to your sorts for you. That is, there will be different conditions there – for different types of traffic can usually be different rates of KPI and so on. You can't just take a link on Facebook and pour fluff on it.
What GEO can you recommend if the budget is 1000, maximum 1500 dollars?
If you go in with such a budget, I advise you to start not with very expensive GEOs – TIER 3, TIER 2. You can consider Greece, Portugal, Turkey, Kazakhstan.
In general, $1000-1500 is a normal amount to start.
Will there be compensation if given an offer that doesn't work?
An affiliate will not offer you things that cannot be launched on. If there is a GEO, but it was stopped yesterday or the day before yesterday, the manager will not offer it.
If the stars aligned so well, and by our mistake you were given such a GEO – of course, you will be compensated.
If you decided to take an offer that was not recommended to you by an affiliate, then, alas, no.
What is the difference, what are the pros and cons of spilling on a link and on an app?
Regarding PWAs. If you have them on your own, you can spill. But the envelope and the lead of the offer remains at your own risk. We don't give PWAs to our partners, we work more with WebView, and take responsibility for their envelope and quality.
As for PWAs, unfortunately we can't be responsible for your applications. From my experience, some people get PWA in, some don't, it's very individual. But, as practice shows, WebView converts better.
